On November 4th, I asked everyone in the NYS Bible Quiz Facebook group (if you’re not part of the group, you should totally join!) if they had any advice for new coaches. Here is what they had to say.
Don’t be nervous. Just have fun and let your kids show you what they can do (what they’ve studied hard for). Wins and losses don’t matter as long as your kids are learning the material.
~ Ben Rybczynski
I’m so excited!!! My best advice is let go breath easy and let God have His way! It’s all about Him learning, enjoying and hiding His word in their heart! God bless everyone!
~ Nika Flood Lynch
Remember your priorities. Ours are, in order,
Learn the Word
Grow in relationship with God and others
Have fun
Earn points
As long as we stick to these priorities in order, things are great!

This is my TWENTIETH year coaching Bible Quiz! My own kids are grown and many former quizzers are now married. I am developing a quizzing ministry in the church we now attend. To the new coaches: once you see what quizzing can do and the impact studying God’s Word has on entire FAMILIES, you may never be able to stop being involved! Long past the point where you own kids are involved. God loves kids. He loves His Word. God loves quiz! Welcome to the best kids ministry I know! I expect I’ll be coaching and promoting it as long as I draw breath!
~ Sue Green
Just have fun!!! Let God do His thing in both you and your quizzers!
~ Veronica Scianna
Last but not least… My favorite piece of advice:
If you are on blood pressure meds, double the dose on meet day!
~ Marion Hollar
