Congratulations to everyone who participated this year in the 2008 Bible Quiz National Finals! This year all quizzers did a great job representing the very best of what New York has to offer. First A/G, Binghamton placed 9th out of 40 teams with a 9 win – 10 loss record, scoring 2755 points. Grace A/G, Syracuse placed 25th with a 13 win – 6 loss record, scoring 2455 points.
Brandon Ford, from Bethlehem Church Richmond Hill, competed in the Open National Individual One on One Tournament and won first place! This is a newly created individual tournament that allows any quizzer in the nation to compete at nationals even if their team does not normally advance to national finals. This was Brandon’s first time at nationals and we are very impressed with winning the individual tournament. Brandon is now a member of the Bible Quiz Hall of Fame!

Farewell to the Nardozzi’s
The Nardozzi’s have announced at Regional Finals this year that they are moving to Arizona. They have sold their house in New York, and they have bought a house in Arizona. John will be driving out in May. Joan plans on transferring in June.
As this may come as a surprise to many, they have actually have been talking about this for a while. They gave the Lord a very long list of impossible scenarios to resolve before they would even consider the possibility. The Lord has answered all of them. As sad as we are to lose such a great couple, we know that God has opened the door for them, and they are where God wants them to be.
John and Joan have been involved in quizzing since 1988 and Joan has been the New York District Bible Quiz Coordinator for 10 years. Over that time, they have influenced many. What is most impressive that they were not only a positive influence on the teens in their own church, but they have made the entire district much stronger.
John and Joan have been a great pair and work together seamlessly. Although John was usually a coach and Joan a coordinator, behind the scenes both of them brought value to what they were doing. John’s strong background in statistics and computers helped organize events smoothly. Joan was very confident in the right thing to do and was a good spokesperson for events. Together their talents blended nicely and could accomplish anything together.
Joan often referred to quizzers (all quizzers, not just the ones from her church) as “her kids”. There was a great sense of ownership and pride that she had in quizzers. Nothing made Joan happier at quiz meets than to see progress made over time with the proper attitude in a teen’s life. She told me when I became district coordinator that I would understand and appreciate that some day. She was right.
Both of them were servants. For years they sold Tshirts at convention and were statisticians for Fine Arts. They would travel anywhere anytime to help team(s) that asked for it. Many times they would house teams that travelled a far distance to forego spending money on a hotel. Whatever they did, they did well and were always humble.
They are my mentors, my confidants, and my friends.
We are so sad to see them go, but we know that God must have something better planned for them in Arizona. Shakespear is correct in saying that parting is such bitter sweet sorrow.
Good job, John and Joan! Well done!
